Privacy Policy
HappySpoon is a weekly meal-planning app for households, made by taplove designs. This policy describes what we collect, why, and what we do with it — in plain language, because that's how we'd want it explained to us.
What we collect
- Account details. Your email address, first name, and a securely hashed password (we can never see the password itself). If you sign in with Apple, we receive the identifier and email Apple shares — which may be a private relay address if you choose to hide yours.
- Household content. The things you and your household create in the app: meal plans, goals and rules, shopping lists, favorites, meal history, your household's name, and preferences like household size, week start day, and enabled meal slots.
- Subscription status. Whether your household has an active HappySpoon+ subscription, via RevenueCat and the app stores. We never see or store your payment card details — Apple and Google handle all billing.
We don't run ads, we don't use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs, and we don't sell your data to anyone.
How we use it
- To run the service: storing your plans, syncing them live between household members, and building your shopping lists.
- To generate meal plans: your household's goals, rules, size, and recent meals are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to create your weekly plan. Per Anthropic's API terms, this data is not used to train their models.
- To email you: transactional messages only — password reset codes and replies to feedback you send us. No marketing lists, no newsletters you didn't ask for.
Sharing within your household
HappySpoon is built for shared planning. Members of your household see the shared content: the meal plans, shopping lists, rules and goals, the household name, and each member's first name. Only invite people you're happy sharing that with — anyone with your invite code can join your household.
Who processes your data
We use a small set of service providers to operate HappySpoon, each receiving only what they need: MongoDB Atlas (database hosting), Render (application servers), Anthropic (AI plan generation), RevenueCat (subscription management), Apple and Google (billing and sign-in), Resend (transactional email), and Vercel (this website). We don't share your data with anyone else except as required by law.
Retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as you have an account. You can delete your account any time in the app under Settings → Danger zone. If you're the only member of your household, the household and all of its plans and lists are permanently deleted with it; if others remain, the shared household content stays with them. You can also email us at hello@happyspoonapp.com and we'll handle deletion or data questions directly.
Security
All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with TLS. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. Access to production systems is limited to what's needed to run the service.
Children
HappySpoon is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. Kids appear in the app only as a serving count that adults configure.
Changes
If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, let you know in the app. Questions any time: hello@happyspoonapp.com.
